2009 Schedule of Events:

This three-day occasion attracts art lovers from far and wide to enjoy current works by regional artists on display in more than 20 galleries in historic downtown Silver City and nearby areas. This year, a few exciting new events have been added to the momentous event.

The weekend will commence Friday night, Oct. 9 from 5:30-8 p.m. with "Pollo Loco" to be held at The Wherehouse 305 S. Texas St.

This curious evening is a competition for "chicken art" created by artists, both professional and amateur. The works will be judged by live chickens and sold for less than $200 per piece.

Individuals are invited to enjoy unique foods, handcrafted microbrews by the High Desert Brewing Company of Las Cruces, root beer and special surprises. Tickets for the event are $10 each, and each Pollo Loco attendee will receive a complementary, commemorative Weekend at the Galleries pint glass.

This year, each participating gallery has selected a country or region in the world to dedicate their venue to. Visitors will receive a Weekend at the Galleries Passport indicating the country associated with each gallery to be stamped as they visit each of the 26 locations. Individuals who receive a stamp from each and every gallery will be entered into a cash drawing to be held at the conclusion of the weekend.

On Saturday, Oct. 10, galleries will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. At 11 a.m., noon and 1 p.m., the Texas Street Outlaws will return again for “hysterical, not historical, family-friendly street shoot-outs on the corner of Texas and Market streets. These silly sights depict Wild West shoot-outs that are a fun addition to the Weekend at the Galleries experience.

From 2-4 p.m., Brandon Perrault will perform on Market Street enticing WAG participants to celebrate the cool, crisp fall weather with a street dance.

An "Evening at the Galleries" gala will be featured from 4-8 p.m. when formal gallery openings are held with each gallery featuring food and decorations from their chosen country.

Galleries will then be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 11 and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday, Oct. 12. In addition to displays, several locations will offer artist demonstrations throughout the weekend.

Tickets for Pollo Loco are available at the Mimbres Region Arts Council Office, 1201 N. Pope St.; the Blue Dome Gallery, 307 N. Texas St.; Art and Conversation, 614 N. Bullard St.; and Leyba & Ingalls Arts, 315 N. Bullard St.

Passports maybe acquired for no charge at all of the above locations as well as at Lois Duffy Art, 211 C N. Texas St.; Yello on Yankie, 108 W. Yankie St.; and Silver Spirit Gallery, 109 N. Bullard St.
